AL Majors All-Star Team Wins D4 Championship

The AL Majors All-Star team won the District 4 championship over McLean NL by a score of 11-1. The Red Surge finished district play with a perfect 6-0 record.

In the championship game, the AL Red jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning with the help of a 2-run double by Sean C. Over the next two innings, the Red put up 5 more runs to take a commanding 9-0 lead after three.

Josh E. took the bump for the AL team and held a powerful McLean lineup to 1 run on 2 hits through 4 innings. Josh struck out 4 and surrendered 3 walks. The defense was impressive behind Josh, turning 2 inning-ending double plays in the 3rd and 4th stanzas. The first double play was Nate H. grabbing a hard-hit ground ball stepping on 3rd and firing to Josh T. at second base.  The second double play saw Josh T. make a diving catch on a line drive at 2B and flipping to James B. to double off the runner at second.

Going to the bottom of the 4th with a 9-1 lead, the AL was looking to put up 2 runs to end the game on the 10-run rule. Nicky C. led off the inning with a line drive single to center field. Sam D. lined out to center and then Taylor A. traded places with Nicky on a fielder’s choice ground ball. Stepping to the plate with 2 outs and Taylor standing on first was Danny Dimes. Dimes fouled off the first 2 pitches and then worked the count to 2-2. On the next pitch, Dimes launched a home run over the center field fence to walk off the win 11-1 to claim the District 4 title.

The AL Majors All-Star team secured Vienna Little League’s third District championship this season as they follow up the NL 10’s and AL 11’s who won their respective District titles. The AL team will represent District 4 in the Virginia State Tournament in Poquoson that begins on July 15th.
