The AL 11’s All-Star team won its second straight District 4 championship with a 17-6 win over Reston/Herndon NL. The Big Red Machine completed district play with a perfect 7-0 record.
In the finals, the AL 11’s found themselves down 6-2 after the first inning. In the top of the 2nd the bats came alive as the team took the lead and plated 7 runs on 7 hits including doubles by Sean Y., Ryne A. and Carson P. For the game, the AL 11’s scored 17 runs on 16 hits with 16 RBIs.
Leading the way offensively were a host of players with multiple hits: Sean Y. (2), Adam K. (3), Paxton L. (3), Case M. (2), Carson P. (2) and Charlie J. (2). In the finals, the team batted over .500 for the game and had an OBP of .632. Over 7 district games, the Big Red Machine put up big numbers: 93 runs on 92 hits.
In the championship game, Jack K. took the bump in relief and pitched 5 innings giving up 5 hits, no runs and struck out 8.
Manager Chris Leggett will lead the NL 11’s All-Stars as they look to repeat as state champions. They will represent District 4 in the Virginia State Tournament in Springfield in mid July.
