With the weather heating up, the homers have started to pile up in Vienna Little League! This weekend all teams were in action and the first Friday Night Lights of the season saw 2 great games between 4 solid teams. With Hangry Panda food truck there to feed the fans, Friday Night Lights was a great environment at Yeonas to watch great baseball with perfect weather.
Friday Night Lights Results
Phillies over Red Sox 3-1
The victory for the Phillies Friday night was a compete team effort. On the mound Sam Brewer and Max Swennson combined to hurl a 1 hitter against a very solid Red Sox lineup. Sam and Max were backed up by great defense, led by Katy Krisick who dazzled at third base. With the Phillies only up by 1 run in the 5th, they were in search of an insurance run and Sam delivered with a moon shot that cleared the sound barrier at Rhodes! Also getting hits for the Philles were Cole Pointkowski, Zach Gantsoudes, Ben “Becker” Beck, Katy and Charlie Cilman. The Red Sox Taylor Atkinson and Josh Tyrell combined to only allow 2 earned runs over 5 solid innings. Macallan had a hit for the Sox.
Cardinals over Reds 6-2
The Cardinals used a 5 run inning to jump out to a 6-1 lead and eventually help on 6-2 to complete the victory over the Reds. Josh Elmore was the catalyst for the Cardinals, going 3-3 at the plate and hurling 3 shutout innings and only allowing 1 hit while striking out 6. Sean Y., Cole N. and Lukas K., all had 2 RBI for the Cards, while Amin A., and Eric C. contributed hits. The Reds Cameron G. had a multiple hit night while Hunter J., Carter C., Landon M. and August M., collected hits for the Reds.
Saturday Results
White Sox over Nationals 18-1
After getting shut out in the first inning, the Sox started scoring in the second and didn’t let up until the game was over. The Sox received multiple hits from Sean C., James B., Ryne A., Jake T., and Tyler B. while getting additional hits from William S., Henry R., and Bridger C.. On the mound for the White Sox Ryne and Jake were dazzling, allowing only 3 hits over the night. Luke A., Rehan W. and Maddox M. had hits for the Nationals.
Yankees over Dodgers 8-3
Lucas N. was spectacular for the Yankees on the mound, throwing 4 innings and only allowing a single run and 2 hits, while striking out 7. Noah K. came in to close the game and only let 1 earned run cross over 2 innings. On offense Charlie J. had 2 hits, including a double. Gavin S., Patrick D., Noah, and Adam K. also had hits for the Yankees. While the Dodgers didn’t have much offense on the night, the first home run of the year for Sam Hansen was a no doubter that cleared the center field fence with ease! Thomas R. and Jack M. also had hits for the Dodgers.
Cubs over Pirates 8-1
The scoring was hard to come by through 3 innings with the Cubs clinging to a 2-0 lead. That all changed in the top of the 4th with the Cubs plating 6 in the frame. The big blow in the inning came from Russell W. who smashed a 2 run double to open the game. On the mound Aiden L. was dazzling, throwing 4 shutout innings, allowing 1 hit and striking out 10. Bryce B. was 3-3 and Holden S. & Eli J. had a multiple hit night. Also collecting hits for the Cubs were Pax L., Jae W., Thomas L. and Wesley W. Simon T. had the lone hit for the Pirates and Mitch W. threw a clean inning, striking out 3.
Orioles over Giants 6-2
For the first 4 innings this matchup had all the makings of a pitchers duel with only 1 run scored. Entering the bottom of the 4th inning the Giants were clinging to a 1-0 lead powered by a Grady J triple in the top of the first. The game changed on two big swings in the bottom of the inning. The first blow came from Kevin C. who laced a line drive to center, scoring 2. The next big bash came from Rowan M., who barreled a bases clearing double to make the score 6-1. Daniel G also had a hit for the Os. Andreas and Andrew were spectacular for the Orioles on the mound allowing only 2 hits and striking out 13. The Giants were led Becket on the mound who struck out 8 over 3 strong innings.
Colts over Blue Jays 12-4
Big innings seemed to be the theme of the Saturday matchups and the Colts used a huge 4th inning to break the game open by scoring 7. Tommy C. and Tyler D. were the catalysts for the Colts combining to go 5-7 with 4 doubles and 5 RBI. Jude B., Tommy B., and Peter M. also contributed with hits for the Colts. On the mound Tommy C. was nails, throwing 3 no hit innings and striking out 8! The Jays had a multiple hit night from Logan R. and received hits from Ryan D., Ethan H., Aaron B. and Tyler D.
Twins tied with Braves through 8 innings
In what was shaping up to be the game of the year so far, 8 innings wasn’t enough to determine a winner between two of the top teams in the league. The game will be continued at a later date.
