Majors 4/12 & 4/13 Results and Recap

Majors 4/12 & 4/13 Results and Recap

After a week long break for FCPS spring break, the Majors teams resumed their regular season play and if there was any rust that needed to be knocked off, you wouldn't have known it as a spectator.  While pitchers mostly dominated this week's action, there were plenty of offensive standouts as well.  There were no home runs hit over Tuesday and Wednesday, but Sam B. and Carter T. combined to throw a no hit shutout for the Phillies!

Phillies over Orioles 5-0

Sam B. has been dominant most of the season but Tuesday night he took it to another level!  Sam hurled 5 & 2/3 innings allowing no hits and striking out 15, while only walking one batter.  Carter T. only needed 1 pitch to complete the no hitter!  At the plate, the Phillies were led by leadoff hitter Cole P. who broke the game open with a 2 run double.  Max S., Charlie C., Sam and Katie K. also collected hits for the Phillies.  The Orioles pitching staff was strong with Andreas M., Webb S., Andrew B. and Rowan M. providing solid innings.

Blue Jays over Cardinals 4-1

The Blue Jays combination of Aaron B. and Ryan D. on the mound carried the day.  The dual aces combined to only allow 3 hits and no runs on the night to complete the victory.  Logan R. was the sparkplug for the Jays offense with 2 hits, including a double, scoring 2 runs and driving in another.  Sean Y. was also spectacular on the mound for the Cardinals, allowing no earned runs and striking out 8 over 5 innings.  Collecting hits for the Cards were Josh E., Matthew E. and Sean.

Twins over Pirates 10-0

The Twins provided all the offense Owen O., IJ M. and Noah J. would need by scoring 4 in the first inning.  The trio combined to throw a shutout.  Offensively the Twins had 4 players with multiple hit games, Owen, Noah, Carson V. and Nate H., who was 4-4.  Cooper S. and Luca B. also provided big hits for the Twins.  The Pirates were led by Kyle H. and Matt M. offensively with each collecting a hit.

White Sox over Yankees 6-3

The White Sox started hot in the game scoring all 6 of their runs in the first 2 innings and were able to hold off a hard charging Yankees team.  Sean C. provided the knock of the game with a 3 RBI bases clearing double.  James B. had a multiple hit night and Jonah K. and Jake T. each had extra base hits.  Lucas N. kept the Yankees in the game by pitching 3 scoreless innings and striking out 7.  On offense the Yankees were led by Nicky C.,  Adam K. and Noah K. who had hits on the night.

Reds over Colts 9-0

Carter C., Zachary S. and Luke P.  combined to throw a shutout while Carter was the offensive catalyst for the Reds on Wednesday night, going 3-3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI on the night.  While the first 4 batters for the Reds continued their dominance, the Reds also received contributions from Landon M., Connor E. and August M.  The Colts Tommy B. laced a double and a single on the night, leading the offense while Tommy C. was strong on the mound over 2 innings, striking out 4 and not allowing a run.

Nationals over Dodgers 9-2

They say defense wins championships.  While that might not always be true, in this game defense was the main variable behind the Nationals win.  In the bottom of the 5th inning with the Dodgers only trailing by 3 runs, Thomas R. laced a ball to right field which had “triple” written all over it.  Peter B., the right fielder, had other plans however.  Ranging to his left, Peter, at the last second, stuck his glove out and caught the ball while falling to the ground.  It was a marvelous play to stomp out the Dodgers potential rally.  Despite being robbed of an extra base hit, Thomas still managed 2 hits on the night.  The other offensive star for the Dodgers was Liam S. who had a multiple hit game.  Luke A., Chase H. and Rehan W. all had multiple hits for the Nationals.

Giants over Cubs 5-4

The Giants seem to like close games and the pressure doesn’t get to them.  In their second walk off of the season, the Giants walked off the Cubs with a passed ball.  Beckett A. entered the game in the 4th inning and was dominant, throwing 3 scoreless innings and striking out 7 Cubs.  The Cubs offense was led by Pax L., who ripped 2 extra base hits while scoring and driving in a run.  The Cubs also received hits from Bryce B, Eli J, Holden S. and Wesley W., while Leitrim M., Samual C., Carson P., Grady J. and Adam M. collected hits for the Giants.

Braves over Red Sox 4-1

Nate H. kept the Red Sox off balance most of the night with a dazzling 4 2/3 while scattering 4 hits and striking out 9.  Jack K. closed the game with 4 consecutive outs on the mound.  On offense Nate had multiple hits for the Braves while Jack, Brady K. and Asher R. also had hits.  Josh T. and Case M. pitched great for the Red Sox, allowing only 2 earned runs on the night and limiting the Braves to 5 total hits.  Taylor A. had a multiple hit night and Macallan B. & Brayden P. each had hits.
