Be the Coach You Always Wanted, Volunteer for VLL

As a volunteer organization, VLL relies heavily upon the parents of our players to serve in coaching roles. Although we have a tremendous stable of experienced coaches, we constantly need to resupply our coaching ranks. Enthusiasm and energy are 99% of the requirements for being a great manager for our youngest players, and the league has lots of coaching resources and training opportunities to help guide you. At the levels of 1A and below, coaches are actively involved in forming rosters and can rally a group of friends, classmates, or neighbors for a fun season of baseball. Sign up now or contact our Minor League Director ([email protected]) or 1A/Rookie/Tee Ball Commissioner ([email protected]) for more information.

VLL + Vienna Business Community = A Great Team

For more than 70 years, VLL's corporate sponsors have generously provided financial support that is essential to our league's success. Fees paid by player families cover only a fraction of our total annual costs, and much of the rest comes from sponsorships. Every dollar donated by sponsors helps VLL improve and maintain our outstanding fields, purchase new equipment and uniforms, and provide financial aid to players. Join our Sponsor Community for the 2023 season! Sponsor a team. Purchase a field banner. Reach hundreds of local families.

Remembering a VLL Giant, "Big Al" Lassiter (1933-2022)

Alvin Lassiter, who died on November 6 at age 89, was a true Giant of Vienna Little League. He was inducted into the league’s Honor Roll in 1978 for his service to VLL, which included coaching the Majors Giants and several successful All-Star teams. "Big Al" mentored hundreds of children while coaching baseball in Vienna for decades, primarily in the 1970s and 1980s, alongside other VLL legends like Frank Rusk, Fred Crabtree, and Chuck Rhodes. In 1983, Al was one of the coaches of the VLL team that came one run away from earning a berth in the Little League World Series, as Southeast Regional Runners-Up. Al's family has asked that donations in his memory be made to his beloved Vienna Little League.

Holiday Bat & Glove Gift-Buying Tips

If you're thinking of buying your Little Leaguer a new baseball bat or glove this holiday season, but aren't sure what size or style to get, we've got some advice from our sponsor Dick's Sporting Goods on how to select the right equipment for your baseball player.

Remember: VLL families can use coupons for discounted shopping at Dick's (in-store or online) through 12/31. (And see below for a convenient option to donate items your player has outgrown.)

SAVE THE DATES: Tryouts Set for 2A, 3A & Majors

VLL will hold its tryouts for Majors/3A/2A registrants on Saturday, February 4 and Sunday, February 12 at HammerZone Sports (Fairfax Circle Shopping Center, 9709 Fairfax Blvd, Fairfax, VA 22030). All players League Age 10 and above must attend an evaluation to enable our coaches to draft them to the appropriate level. Players who are League Age 8 and 9 who are seeking placement in 2A or 3A also must attend a tryout to be draft-eligible; placement at requested draft levels is not guaranteed for 8- and 9-year-olds. (Players who wish to play 1A or below should not participate in the evaluations, and no players League Age 7 or younger should attend the evaluations.)

Find a New Home for Your Player's Old Gear

Looking to make a year-end charitable donation? A Vienna family is collecting new and gently used sports equipment this week for Leveling the Playing Field, an organization that promotes sports participation by supplying equipment to under-resourced youth groups, community programs, and schools in our area. Bats, bags, bases, baseballs, catchers gear, cleats, gloves, batting helmets, pants, pitching/Batting nets, tees, and other baseball items in good condition are accepted. (See the full list of acceptable items.) Donation bins will be in the family's driveway at 405 Niblick Drive SE, Vienna, VA 22180 from December 8-11. Receipts for tax purposes can be downloaded here. Direct any questions to [email protected].
